Global zoom

I'm currently in negotiation with a rock band to shoot their next video. The song is called "Pixel" and during a brain-storm last night, I half-jokingly said "If we had the money, I'd love to do a global zoom".

In this case, it'd be starting on the singer in the middle of the street and pulling up off him, off the street, off the city, through the clouds and ending up coming out through a computer monitor, revealing the singer to have been just a pixel on the screen (y'see what I did there? [img]biggrin.gif[/img] ).

Cue the band bouncing up and down excitedly going: "That's a great idea! How do we do it?"

My answer: "I have no idea, but porbably very expensively."

So, does anyone have clue how I could achieve something like this on a rather tight budget? Has anybody done it before?

I'd imagine the hiring of jib would be in order and there'd probably be some 3D MAX/After FX/Bryce work involved, but other than that I'm a tad clueless.

you could do it if you had some footage from really high up of the surounding buildings to then stick the job footage into. So it zooms out with the jib and then you keep going by making the jib footage smaller and smaller and allowing the surrounding city footage to become visable... have that getting smaller and smaller, stick in some computer generated coulds.... that goes to white and then it becomes a white pixel on the screen??

something like that anyways.

Professionaly it would be done with a helicopter most probably. You could do it with CGI and a jib i guess. It all depends on how realistic you can get it to zoom up showing the surrounding city

I think the helicopter will be a touch over-budget for me. [img]frown.gif[/img]

I'm going to try a test in my garden with the assistance of a big ladder, my girlfriend, an aerial photo of my road and 3DS MAX. [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

I also thought about just standing the singer on a big green sheet and just CGing everything around him. Y'know, bunging a road texture under his feet,put big 3D models of buildings around him & a few Poser people walking past. Viable?
